Getting Started

Super Simple Food Diary is designed to be effortless. Here's how to get started:

  1. Open the app - You'll see your food diary organized by date
  2. Tap the + button - Add your first meal entry
  3. Type what you ate - No need to search databases or count calories
  4. Save - Your entry is stored privately on your device

That's it! Your food journal is now up and running. You can also switch to Calendar View to browse your entries by month.

Common Questions

How do I add a meal entry?
Tap the blue + button in the top right corner. Type what you ate, choose a date if needed, and tap Save. It's that simple!
How do I edit an entry?
Tap on any existing entry to edit it. You can change the text, date, or bad day marker, then tap Save to update.
How do I delete an entry?
Swipe left on any entry to reveal the Delete button. Tap it to remove the entry permanently.
How do I set up reminders?
Tap the settings icon (⚙️) in the top right corner. Enable notifications, then add custom reminder times. You can set multiple reminders throughout the day.
How do I mark a bad day?
When adding or editing an entry, check the "Mark as bad day" checkbox. You can also tap on any date header in your history to mark or unmark that day.
Can I backdate entries?
Yes! When adding or editing an entry, tap the date to choose a different day. This is helpful if you forgot to log a meal.
Where is my data stored?
By default, all your data stays on your device only. If you enable the optional sync feature (Settings → Sync), your entries are also stored on a secure server so they can be shared across your devices — but no account or personal information is ever required. You can delete all remotely stored data at any time from the Sync settings.
Can I sync between devices?
Yes! Go to Settings → Sync to set up cross-device sync. Create a new sync group and share the 6-digit invite code with your other devices. Your data is stored anonymously on a secure server — no account, name, or email is required. Sync is entirely optional; the app works fully offline without it.
How do I export my data?
Go to Settings → Data → Export as CSV. This generates a CSV file with all your entries (date, time, food logged, and bad day marker) that you can share or save anywhere.
How do I use the Calendar view?
Tap the "Calendar" segment at the top of the home screen. You'll see a monthly view with coloured dots — green dots indicate days with food entries, red dots indicate days marked as bad days. Tap any date to jump to that day's entries in the list view.
How do I enable time tracking?
Go to Settings → Time Tracking and toggle "Enable Time Tracking" on. This adds a time picker when adding or editing entries and displays the logged time alongside each entry. You can also enable "Show meals in chronological order within a day" to see breakfast at the top and dinner at the bottom.

Troubleshooting

Why aren't my notifications working?

Check these steps:

  • Make sure you've granted notification permissions to the app
  • Verify that notifications are enabled in Settings → Enable Notifications
  • Check that at least one reminder time is enabled (toggle switched on)
  • Ensure your device's Do Not Disturb mode isn't blocking notifications
  • Try disabling and re-enabling notifications in the app settings
Why did my data disappear?
If you uninstalled the app, all local data was removed. If you had sync enabled, your data still exists on the server and will reappear after reinstalling and rejoining your sync group. If you still have the app installed, try restarting it — your data should persist as long as the app is installed.
The app seems slow or isn't responding
Try force-closing the app and reopening it. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and swipe the app away.
